January Life...

This coming week-end, I (well, my hubby will be doing it) we till once again.  I have some debris that needs to be burned.  I think that the ashes will be a wonderful benefit.  Don't you?  There are a list of things that need to be done.

*Rake out debris left and make the soil smoother (eliminate rocks)
*I will spray the borders of the garden to keep the squash bugs, aphids, and ants away...
*Organize the paver bricks that are left over from the patio we took out to expand the garden...

and a list of other things that need to happen...

Babies are a sprout!!!

So the broccoli seeds have sprouted.  Yay! I am still waiting for the peppers to sprout.

I have come across an idea. This idea entails coffee cans and lettuce seeds.  I'm an avid coffee drinker, and love to make my own cheap cup of Joe, so I have a number of coffee cans that just sits in my shed...wait my Green House! (ha ha ha)...

What better Idea than recycling these cans, but using them for the gamut of lettuce seeds that have so many different varieties.

Hey, I know, I have done some crazy things, I know that a lot of things that I have done didn't work also...

BUT WHO CARES! Right?   Gardening is nothing but an experiment anyway, Yes?

So off to experiment...Oh, Wait!!! I have to get some good dirt first for the cans... There is something funny about that sentence but I can't quite put my finger on it!! ha ha ha ha!

Serial plant killer on the loose again...

Awhile back, I bought a plant, an orchid the most beautiful one ever... I even took a picture then entered it in a photo contest on About.com, and it was recognized... That was cool...

Well, as it were, It has become my latest victim... sigh!!! I thought that it was happy vibrant and... well! Alive?... You Know!?

I went to check on it, as I picked it up to give it water... the thick leathery leaves, dark green so succulent, fell off  bloop, bloop, ...

Much to my dismay... I think that I killed it by method of watering... maybe to much...
Ho-Hum ....  So the serial life continues... When will the Chaos end???....

January Life!

Someone wrote about January, how, in short, they didn't favor this month... by thought their meaning of the word delete is synonymous with January...I hope this is what they were thinking, because it made sense to me. Well, I think that I have to agree... It is drab and dull... and growing anything is by far a challenge with me, (as it is anyway).
But enough of that dreary thinking... Right???

So instead of thinking of the "what doesn't", maybe I need to get it together and think of the "what does"...
I can plan, build, sow indoors, and hope that the choice seeds will grow for the most amazing garden ever...

Delete would be a word to use for dead plants and old garden plans... and just crap in general...

SO the word DELETE is a new favorite word in my vocabulary...
Delete, Delete, Delete..... I like it!!!

Furry Drama in the home...

I have had high hopes that Piglet would be in a euphoric state of mind, for having new siblings... Whatever grieving processes she must still be going through for our beloved Mina, has affected the way she feels towards us all.  Her demeanor has changed very much in couple few weeks... So much so that she is very angry towards everyone in her path... "watch-out!!!..."

On the better frame of mind, though... Pea-Nut and Butter are fast friends and siblings... They absolutely love each other. Right after their meals, they automatically find the moment to chase each other, unintentionally just about wrecking anything in their path...

I love the patters of their feet and thunder of the chase.  It makes our household alive and happy...

The need to make Piglet feel better and content, is a mission that can not be ignored, and I am at a loss... sigh... I hope that I get her on her way of feeling better...

It's okay baby girl... Momma is here...

 Another Project on the list....

I found somewhere, a project that really seems fun to do...  But for the life of me, I can't remember where it was that I read it...

     Bird Bath....

Made with tiles and terracotta pots, the picture was so amazing... as it is I love things like this, and home made projects just makes the yard homey and magickal...

I want to do this... but again the problem I can't find the instructions...  So, I will be adding this to my list of things to do...
I hope that I can get this made and put in the yard soon...
Gosh! Spring is coming, you know... I know,  Duhhh!! lol!!!

Planting Season, Can't Wait.

Don't you love when planting season is upon us (by the way, still waiting for my catalogs...)   ...  I have calculated and counted backward, whatever trick to think of, when it comes to get these veggies to grow...  I'm not very good at all this, as of yet! True,  I am working on it.

But this leads to my true thought,  I LOVE the Farmers Almanac. It does all the real hard mental work for us, YES? So most of my "in ground" planting will happen in the beginning of March after frost.
On the list of veggies I want to grow includes Broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, melons, peppers, pumpkins, radish, spinach, squash, beans and possibly beets.
I  have already seeded broccoli, peppers, jalapenos, eggplant. No signs of sprouts yet!  (sigh!!!) That was the on the 8th of Jan.

Something New to Learn :

I want to learn to plant by the moon.  What does this mean?  Well, it seems that, this is a practice of which the plant is affected by the phase of the moon.  Much more success with, plants and flowers that bear fruit above ground while the moon phase is during the waxing of the moon.  This is from the day the moon is new to the day that the moon is full.  Plants like, bulbs and veggies that bear fruit below ground while the moon phase is dark or waning, this is the day after the moon is full to the day the moon is new again.
Now, will I do this?  I'm not sure. But obviously it worked for the farmers that did practice it, and that still do.  Being aware of the Moon is a must. That really isn't to hard for me, although connecting gardening and the moon phase is something I probably need to work on. I know that there is in depth information about how this is all in tune, "you know" with the tides and the pull of the Moon and stuff, but I guess I am bit lazy to actually read up right at the moment. If this does work. I will so be on the task of how this works...

Projects indoors

So off the gardening topic for a moment well, kind of, I have an old beautiful fish tank that well seen it's last days of life. I can't get it clean any longer. The algae is so bad, that the tank won't come to it's former glory.

One of the Goldfish in front...

Some of my beautiful Bottle in the window reflecting, Cool huh?

So I now will retire it to the goodwill for a new owner, new life.  Since I still have three gold fish that well, have a will to live...It's going on now, I would say 5 or 6 years, maybe longer ...  I went down to my local store and decided to buy a new tank, smaller one and much easier to take care of, to put these gold fish in to finish out the remaining years of their life.

The goldfish aren't it the new tank yet! The tank is at acclimation stage, I have to temper the water and get air circulation going through it first.  Pictures will be posted soon of the "Old fish"...

Future project in the making..

Now when this tank becomes empty, my plan is to embark on my one interest, Carnivorous Plants, I think that this will be the neatest thing, having a terrarium full of these difficult plants to grow maintain and such... Master Gardeners will probably say different... I have hopes though...

Relaxation beyond Limits

I think my furry children have it so good... Sometimes I'm jealous... hahaha!

Comfortable Much?
Good Morning Glory!!

Bright Eyes!

Pea-Nut is catching up on some zzz's. It's tough tormenting the new sibling..

Piglet is relaxing on higher grounds keeping away from the trouble makers... She is too mature for such childish games... hahaha!

And of course the newest member is sleeping too...

Awwwe, Butter is so cute...

Dreary days and sleep just go together so well don't you think!

And The New Year Begins....

It is January, and everything is starting off with newness...

We have bought a tiller!! Yes, a tiller... "I have a little backyard, not much room," as I think to myself.. What in the world am I thinking?...  Well, I wasn't! My Hubby was.. (as always, he has the Ideas...)...

I brought him out to the yard to help me measure out just a little more footage.  And he says, "If I were you..."   LOL ... so the rest commenced...

I proceeded to remove the paver's (well, only half of them, then hubby did the rest) that had my little bistro table sitting at or on, and expanded the area.  He lined the outside edge with blocks that helped hold back the prior garden and so to hold the new garden in.

This thinking all led to  "honey can you help me measure, so I can add a foot or two to the garden..."  ha ha ha!

I have cleared out a lot of the old plants and debris, raking things up, also trying to get rid of stuff that came out of the shed.   I feel as if I'm spring cleaning, and well, spring isn't here. Just temps playing the old just wait and see what comes next game...  Kinda like, today will be 80 degrees, but tomorrow will be 40 degrees.. and then the next day the breeze kicks up is, but cold enough to go right through your soul..  since the wind blew, it's time to rain, but the kind of rain that only dirty's up everything..  Then, changes up again... That Game!

I am seeding indoors, right now, eggplant, peppers (jalapeños tooo) and Yes, I decided to try broccoli... I think it will bolt though... but must try!

I thought, So now I am clearing everything and tilling and weeding and all else...  I will be taking care of those pesky and trouble-some, awful pests... (a.k.a. stink-bugs, aphids, and whiteflys).  I remember, I thought in the beginning, I was so frustrated,  ALL I wanted to do is spray everything and anything... Well, I think I have changed my mind.... I just want to spray the perimeter of my yard...
I know! I shouldn't do that either, but I am at a mook point of tolerance... I actually would like healthier and happier plants, minus the pests, wouldn't anyone?... and I still will be use  organic recipes for prevention, but this time, No!, I won't!...  I didn't even have enough good bugs to help control the bad bugs!... But I plan to bring in more "companion plants" and more flowers... Plus plants the good bugs like most... to help along the way..

I have gone through and ordered a bunch of catalogs from different places, I can't wait for their arrival... It's like that favorite program you just can't wait to watch...Well, when they come, my nose will be in them thar catalogs.... and to heck with everything else.... until finished...

Cool carrots huh!!!

So  not only we have a great start with the garden... You know... Tangent expanding... wellll, guess WHAT?

SO has our family.... well, ha ha ha! Just our furry family...

We have my Princess Piglet,  then we have, PeaNut,  Now....

I would like to introduce to you  BUTTER...    Yes!, I said, "Butter", We decided that since Princess Piglet is not quite happy with Pea-Nut, we thought then, Pea-Nut needed a sister/brother... So, we went back to our local animal pound and got  another kitten today... that makes three.. Plus the outdoor one that someone cruelly left behind...

So now to make Pea-Nut complete, we have Butter...  Butter was thought to be a girl, which was so named Sabrina, in the pound, I had asked so why does the sign say that this one is Female and clearly it has well you know?  They're like, well let me see... and weirdly, they checked the plumbing, and, BY GOLLY! I was right...(being sarcastic)... How do you miss seeing "junk in the trunk" like that? So poor Sabrina, was not a Sabrina.   We had to give "Him" a name!

On the car ride home, my idealistic hubby says,  "How about Butter, you know Pea-Nut ... Butter... !!!"

I laughed, and thought that was brilliant... So, It Stands as  Princess Piglet, Pea-Nut, Butter, and Nuggets (a.k.a Adolf) That are now in the house of Tangent...

I hope that we all stay one big happy furry family!
