Urban Gardening in unnatural heat... Why Not?

Friday, July 22, 2011

Whew! Even 6:00 a.m. It's hot...

Well, as the heat wave continues... I was outside doing a lot of clean up and reassessing how I want to see my back yard... So I wake up early and head out at 6:30 a.m....  I do have grandioso ideas, but, but these ideas aren't unreachable...

Just the heat is a little unbearable even at this time in the morning...

I went out last night, and bought a bird bath  and a bistro umbrella for my little patio table set.. Thank- You husband it certainly makes me happy...

But anyway, I did go outside somewhat after 5:00a.m. too feed the birds... and as I was peering out the window with a cup of coffee, I notice the birds acting a little unusual... all of them (all of them) an "Hitchcock, The Birds", scenario.... were sitting along the fence, in a row, staring at the area of where the feed was put... It was so bizzare but really funny that they were so aware of the subtle changes that were made. They were not going to go down to where the feed was put, but hunger superseded.
Eventually, "they" one by one, came down to eat.. after that, I went out and did a little bit of rearranging and a little clean up... Well the birds are happier for it... so am I!

 Green Bean Saga-

Well maybe talking about the green bean saga is getting old,or maybe so yesterday, last week even, but I have to keep talking about it...

So I soaked them the beans, again last night... This morning I planted them.  So as of  Friday July 22, I know they will sprout, and I know I will be excited all over again... What will the out come be? Who knows? But I do know, I will not let the birds win this round...

Take that little darlings!!!!

I spotted a pair of Abert Towhee birds... Okay, I am "so not" a bird specialist, but I did do some research online to see what these comical birds were. It seemed that they are the above named birds... One of the birds literally untied some twine that I had holding the lattice to the stake, I never thought they would be so smart... and the other one... doing this little jump and dig in the dirt dance, to peck at it repeatedly... It was so cute.. I wish I got a picture of them, but here is a picture from online...

Yes! famously ranting as I do...

 UPDATE!
My Thai chili pepper (heavy sigh!) doesn't seem to want to try to make it! I trimmed a little and gave a little TLC, and now it's a hurry up and wait & see kinda thing... I really hate it, but what do you do? Right?

    Happy Gourds tho!

Well so far they seem happy!  What do you think?  I know maybe to soon to tell, but I'm still secretly excited!

Well I have weeds too, but I'll get'em... Next to the Gourds I do have catnip also! That's okay it will go away before the gourds really get started...

***I have a secret count down going on for the Elephant Ears' time to sprout!***

It is now, about 10 days left to the triumphant appearance of the Mighty Elephant Ear to show itself...

Come On Already I want to see what you look like!!!!!!

        So the count down continues.....
